Jerusalem Old city

The Old City of Jerusalem is a tiny microcosm of hardly 1 square km behind walls, a place of history and faith, a Holy City for all three monotheist religions. It resembles an exuberant theatre set, textured like an ancient parchment covered with Holy Scriptures over which endless graffiti has been scribbled. Moving along its narrow alleys can feel oppressive, emotions are sometime palpable. Yet a relatively peaceful mode of coexistence thrives between the different communities despite the tensions.

In this long-term project, my aim is simply to observe, through photography, the impact of the fascinating groundswell that constantly sweeps Jerusalem Old City. How does it shape or influence the way people move and interact at street level? Or is there a clear tendency to stick to normality, through daily cues and gestures, as a way to fool ambient stress?
